When I am not working with clients I spend time volunteering for the Red Cross. I am a contributing columnist for Goodtherapy.org where I write monthly about relationships and marriage.
In addition, I have written a book to help Marriage and Family Therapy Interns and I currently supervise two MFT-Interns, helping them grow in the profession.
My degrees include:
Masters in Psychology, Phillips Graduate Institute
B.A. in Journalism, University of Nevada-Reno
I have
been a Marriage and Family Therapist in Long Beach, CA for
the last eight years. This is a second career for me. Before
becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist I spent more than 20
years as a broadcast journalist.
During that time I reported on various news stories. I was always drawn to peoples' struggles. My heart would open and I would do what I could to tell their story. I eventually turned to documentaries where I focused on social issues, winning two Emmy awards. And while my career flourished, my life took a dramatic turn. My brother died suddenly at a young age.
After that loss I could no longer find the fulfillment I once experienced in the journalism world. I needed something different; more meaningful. I began to wonder about what friends and family had said to me over the years, "You are so compassionate, you should be a therapist." They saw something in me I couldn't see until my life took that turn.
I made the decision to return to school and study psychology. When I began my studies, it was like a finally found my home. I am happy I pursued this field. When I help couples find a closer connection, or support individuals through their challenges, I know I am in the right place... helping others.
