THE COUNSELOR'S ROLE

Listen to both people, remaining neutral without    “taking sides"

Champion the relationship — not the individuals

Acknowledge and highlight helpful behaviors that    already exist

Illuminate negative behaviors and how they impact    the relationship

Make each person aware of what he/she does to    exacerbate the ongoing difficulties, without blame    or judgment

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I can help you both talk about your difficulties and challenges in the relationship and with the other person.  We’ll focus on what’s not working and what is, and most importantly we’ll discover why.

Counseling allows people to open up and share even the scary stuff that usually stays hidden from the other person. Counseling helps couples re-discover the other person again, in a way that is more satisfying to both.  The goal of counseling is not to fix your marriage; the goal is to provide you new skills for you to use to communicate with each other and to help you feel more connected to your partner.

In a counseling session, you are encouraged to speak openly about issues that concern you. The process can be described as unpacking your mental suitcase with your counselor, examining the contents together, choosing what issues to resolve and which ones to discard, then you pack up the now lighter suitcase and MOVE FORWARD.
